"Kick off your flip flops"

Ok, so I haven't finished section 4. I've had a technical nightmare the last 10 days trying to get my lessons to load, but think think I am on the downside of this issue. Have you ever let someone take over your computer remotely? It is a little crazy the first time, but now that I've done it several times, it is more normal to me. The ones who invented this process are probably computer geniuses who got tired of trying to explain things over the phone. . . . . . to people like me. Lesson 4 here I come. After my kids are in bed, that is.

Anyway, about my title. I saw it on a welcome sign at Hobby Lobby and loved it. I should have bought it, because by the time I got back to the store to buy one, they were all gone.

Spring has sprung. Kind of strange, this early in the year. I was going to post a great photo of the daffodils that are in full bloom, or show you the trees with leaves beginning to come out. But, all of that was wishful thinking and didn't materialize. Instead, I will tell you that sprinklers are now in use and I wore sandals for the first time this year today. Yesterday I was out watering my trees and found my first LIZARD of spring, hanging out and blending in with my hose. Just happy he was an outside lizard and not an inside lizard, hopefully he stays that way.

2009 is going to be a long hot year, so "Kick off your flops!"

CUB SCOUT PATCHES!!!!!!!!

I have to be honest and admit that my attitude regarding cub scouts has not always been exemplary. BUT, it is improving and my boys are ready to earn some badges. In the next couple of weeks I'll be sewing on the Bobcat patch, too.

I own my personal scout shirt. Woo hoo! I did not buy yellow, it is a terrible color for me, so I was thrilled to find out that women can buy the "olive" colored shirt as well. Ok, thrilled is a stretch because it was $___ (more than I hoped it would be). It is, however, a good investment in Andrew's future, not to mention the other boys. Plus I am learning useful skills. It is almost like hosting a birthday party every two weeks. I play kickball and made mini apple pies in a muffin tin. Our first field trip was bowling and our next will be to Nathan's clinic in March. The assignment for next time is to learn about 2 famous Americans and their contribution to our country and life.

Scouting is great. It is all the things you want your son to know and an organized way to teach them. It is goal setting for me and for them--a great program of growth and learning.

ps One of my children recently told me I wasn't very "fancy." I don't think this shirt is helping my fancy status at all, do you? Oh well. I probably have to go to a different store than the Scout Shop to work on that. I hope my Macy's doesn't close!

Six digit figure

Our 1996 fully paid off minivan made it to the six digit figures today! I had us all ride to Target for fun things like diapers and garbage bags so we could celebrate 100,000 together.
Hurray for big numbers!

ps It is time to start saving for the next one.

Makin' Some Noise

Yesterday I substituted for Cait's Primary class. The lesson manual told me to make paper trumpets and let each child pretend to be Moroni. I had 7 four year olds makin' some noise. It was a blast. I don't know about the class next to me, I guess I should have thought about them. Since it was nursery, I won't worry too much.

It went so well we re-enacted it for Family Home Evening tonight with Cait as my assistant.

The right motivation

I took the quiz yesterday and got an 80%! I used to need higher grades, this one I will be happy to pass and finish in time. One more post today, and then the next will be after the next quiz. This time the topic is "The Accounting Cycle."

What's on your procrastination list?

One of my greatest struggles is overcoming procrastination. Too many options for spending my time. I can easily rattle off 20 things I could do before the bus comes, and that's just today. Usually on that list there are some things urgent, some things important, and 14-16 others.

How do you overcome it?
What are your tricks?
How do you eliminate the good but not so important?

I was going to tell you what I am procrastinating, but it was too painful, maybe tomorrow.


Just kidding. It is Accounting 200, a class I am taking independent study from BYU. I have a long history of independent study classes. The first one was while I was a student, it was Math History. (um, can you think of why I might procrastinate that one?) I waited so long that I had to pay an extra fee to extend 3 months. I will never do that again because it was the easiest math class I ever took. Since then I have taken a couple of classes, mostly in education. I am running out of those, however, and when I called the UT recertification people they said since I am in math, accounting would be OK.

This is the year I need to re-certify to teach, and so I have been accumulating points, but not quickly enough. So accounting 200 has my time, at least until I finish the next section, then I think I will blog again--to reward myself! Maybe I'll make up a quiz for y'all. Seriously I can't use "y'all," except in print, I don't quite pronounce it right. I almost said, "fixing to" yesterday but stopped myself in time.

UGH, I can tell by my writing about TX vocab that now I am procrastinating the end of this blog . . . hope to have more to say, soon. Until then, Accounting 200!
