“Happiness is the object and design of our existence; and will be the end thereof, if we pursue the path that leads to it;
and this path is virtue, uprightness, faithfulness, holiness, and keeping all the commandments of God.”

Cat goes shopping

Andrew turned to me while we were waiting for stake conference to begin and said:

Where does the cat who lost his tail get a new one?

"At the re-tail store."

Tremendous

"You did a tremendous amount of laundry today."

There's noting like a couple of days in bed to teach gratitude for the ability to lift, bend, and twist.
Remember this?
(I know it has a different title, but I will always remember it as the "lift, bend, twist" talk).

My favorite part of laundry is hanging up the clean mens' dress shirts. When I was a girl, I remember hanging my dad's shirts on a doorknob to help my mom. She taught me to do it quickly and carefully, so they would not wrinkle. I remember feeling happy that I was contributing. I still hang up shirts, though more frequently now. I still love it.

Visible Progress

Something I like about keeping a journal (or writing a blog), is being able to look back and see progress. Last September, I sewed in my first zipper. I came back to that project last night, and here is the final product. (The first one turned out a wee bit tiny). This one is just right.

I'm happy I finished. You may know that September is National Sewing Month . . . . my project this month is to finish up some UFO's (unfinished objects).

By next September, I will put some zippers into clothing . . . . Happy sewing Month!

Can't sit still; can't sit . . . . still

Labor Day 2010

8 am Nathan and Andrew went to play Ultimate frisbee with new friends. They loved it (of course). Andrew came home with bright red cheeks and Nathan brought home a giant grass stain on an old shirt (so it doesn't matter--phew).

11:30 am When they got home, they packed lunches and went on a hike. It was only a 20 minute drive to get there, and was crowded with other labor day hikers. Grandpa went too.

3 pm When they got home from hiking,
4:30 p.m.they celebrated the last open day at  the pool.

I had a setback . . . . my back went out on Sunday during church, so I spent most of Labor Day resting it. Grandma did most of our weekly laundry while the others hiked. She brought me a heating pad, (my new best friend), and some groceries. Today it is much better.

(I blame this episode of back pain on too many hours sitting down on FR & SA, improper lifting technique, and poor posture. It is not the first day I've spent in bed contemplating what I could have done differently to stay out of bed. Fortunately my dad has a great backache book which they brought for my reading pleasure . . . . the first sentence reads, "Are you in bed?"). Great comic relief.

8 p.m. After the kids' went to bed, Nathan and I watched the "Incredibles." I watched from the living room floor, until I couldn't lay there any longer, then I washed dishes through the end of the movie.
Another great day!

Made to order

Today was Caitlin's made to order day.
Her wish for her birthday was to go on a bike ride alone with Dad.
Wish granted.

She also wanted blueberries and blueberry yogurt for breakfast. DONE.
School lunch for lunch. DONE.
(It was pizza-which I didn't know when I agreed to it).

Dinner was pizza, which was decided months ago.
She surprised me by eating supreme.

Instead of cake, cinnamon rolls.

We had these two along for dinner, opening presents, and dessert.

They were happy about hand-delivering the card instead of mailing.

A great day!

One last shot of her (albeit blurry) in her "lucky" shirt.
